Sports Medicine Care for Athletes & Non-Athletes
Sports medicine isn’t only for competitive athletes. Dr. Mandil provides non-surgical care for conditions affecting the muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments, whether they result from sports, work, motor vehicle accidents, or everyday activities. His approach is tailored to each patient’s diagnosis, lifestyle, activity level, and functional goals.
During his Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship, Dr. Mandil provided medical coverage for Division I student-athletes at Colgate University and Le Moyne College, gaining experience evaluating a wide range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries. Today, he applies that experience to caring for athletes and non-athletes alike, focusing on identifying the source of symptoms and discussing appropriate treatment options to help patients make informed decisions about their care.
When Should You Consider a Sports Medicine Evaluation?
Not every injury requires emergency care, but lingering pain, swelling, reduced mobility, or difficulty returning to normal activities may warrant an evaluation by a sports medicine physician.
Patients commonly seek an evaluation after:
- A sports or recreational injury that hasn’t improved as expected
- A motor vehicle accident resulting in neck, back, joint, or soft tissue injuries
- A work-related injury affecting movement or the ability to perform job duties
- Persistent joint pain, stiffness, or swelling affecting the shoulders, knees, hips, or ankles
- Muscle, tendon, or ligament injuries that interfere with exercise, work, or everyday activities
- When exploring non-surgical treatment options before considering surgery
A comprehensive evaluation can help identify the source of symptoms and determine appropriate next steps based on each patient’s condition and goals.
