Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) focuses on improving movement and function after injury or illness. As a physiatrist, Dr. Mathew evaluates musculoskeletal conditions that cause pain, weakness, or reduced mobility. He develops treatment plans tailored to each patient’s diagnosis, medical history, and functional goals. When appropriate, he emphasizes non-surgical and minimally invasive options.

Pain Management

With advanced fellowship training in pain management, Dr. Mathew evaluates and treats complex pain conditions related to traumatic injuries. He is trained and experienced in performing minimally invasive procedures, including epidural injections, to address specific sources of pain identified during evaluation.

Diagnostic Testing (EMG)

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic test used to assess nerve and muscle function. It can help detect nerve damage, muscle disorders, or other neuromuscular issues that may be causing symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. Dr. Mathew performs EMG testing in the office to support accurate diagnosis and help guide appropriate treatment planning.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is often included as part of Dr. Mathew’s rehabilitation approach for patients recovering from traumatic injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. Therapy focuses on improving mobility, rebuilding strength, and addressing movement limitations that can interfere with daily activities. It plays an important role in supporting functional progress within a coordinated care plan.
